NEWS: Norwegian Progressive Rock Band ÆVINTYR Release Debut Album “Gjest Baardsen”.

The Norwegian progressive rock band ÆVINTYR have released their debut album “Gjest Baardsen“.

The music is composed by Bjørnar Selsbak and can be described as a crossover that draws on heavy rock as well as classical music. Besides the standard rock instrumentation of drums, bass and distorted guitars, classical singers contribute to this original sounding effort along with brass and strings.

The album features original lyrics in Norwegian written by Norway’s most famous and notorious criminal of the 19th century – Gjest Baardsen(1791–1849). Gjest wrote these lyrics while serving his life sentence at Akershus Festning(Fortress). He was held captive at Akershus for 18 years. After his release from prison in 1845 he earned his living as a songwriter and book merchant until his death in 1849.

Ævintyr from Trondheim, Norway was started in 2014 and consist of musicians with background from Norwegian folk metal band Lumsk and Grammy-nominated chamber ensemble TrondheimSolistene.

Guitarist Bjørnar and drummer Alf-Helge have played together in different bands from the nineties, most known is the norwegian folk metal band Lumsk which they were the founding members.
