NEWS: Get Your Rock Out For Rockers For Knockers In Coalisland

The BIG ROCK BAND are putting on a show with a difference, Rockers For Knockers, in Gervin’s Bar, Barrack Square, Coalisland, Northern Ireland, as they are raising money for Cancer Charities and awareness of the proposal to close services in Craigavon Area Hospital.

Cancer can hit anyone, and Breast Cancer can affect both women and men. It is especially important for women to check themselves out for any lumps. Breast screening services are vital to help catch cancer as early as possible to give those diagnosed as best a chance as possible to beat it. It can affect your mother, sister, daughter, wife, girlfriend, aunt or friend. Help save a life and help protect breast screening services.

This will be a great gig for a very important cause, so bring plenty of spare cash for the all important donations.

Following a review carried out by the Department of Health a recommendation has been put forward to close the Breast Screening Unit in Craigavon Area Hospital and all patients in the Southern Health Trust will have to travel to the Ulster Hospital at Dundonald, Belfast for screening.

The review report found that the best model for meeting the needs of all patients across Northern Ireland was to have screening units based in Craigavon, Belfast City and Altnagelvin Hospitals. However, the DHSS have chosen to ignore this and have put forward the closure of the Craigavon unit leaving the Antrim Hospital unit open instead.

There is a consultation “Reshaping Breast Assessment Services” ongoing until the beginning of August. Make your voice heard.

• The Breast Screening unit in Craigavon Area Hospital has met the Government Targets for breast screening consistently over the past of number of years.
• In 2018 4847 patients used the screening service in Craigavon Area Hospital.
• In 2018 311 breast cancer patients were diagnosed and treated at Craigavon.

Rockers For Knockers want to raise awareness of Breast Screening Services and the current Northern Ireland consultation to allow all in the community to voice their concerns at the proposed closure of this vital screening service and the possible affects it could have on all cancer services provided at Craigavon Area Hospital.
