NEWS: DOUBLE EXPERIENCE Dig Out The Dungeon Master’s Manual For New Album ‘Alignments’

DOUBLE EXPERIENCE release their new album ‘Alignments’ on 24th April through Drakkar Entertainment

“We are so proud to reveal our new album, “Alignments”. As our first concept album, we’ve arranged it into 3 separate parts (Neutral, Good, and Evil) to demonstrate its underlying story

Good and evil, order and chaos. These concepts are not as easily-controlled as they are within tabletop gaming. In our world, thoughts and prayers are as disposable as the latest streamable series. While the lines between politics and humanity have blurred, the chasms that divide us have not. Double Experience aim to guide you through these troubling times with their new full-length record, Alignments.

Full album tracklist
1. Perish Song
2. New Me
3. Something’s Got to Give
4. Ghost in the Machine
5. My List
6. Your Biggest Fan
7. Born For It
8. So Dumb
9. The Imp
10. Alignments

Each track is absolutely superb rock with a fantastic hard blues rock vibe on “New Me”, the band’s tribute to the Punisher and has such a Bon Scott era AC/DC vibe with the vocals and blues rock edge , “Ghost in the Machine” has a great cyberpunk vibe, oddly enough, through to “Born For It” with a fantastic catchy rhythm that just chugs right through to the end. The vocals are clear and powerful with a great emotionally charged edge.

This album cuts across music genres, but still with that hard rock foundation striking blow after blow for nerds and geeks everywhere with even the concept of the album yelling through a megaphone how gaming inspired they and the songs contained in “Alignments” are. For goodness sake, even their band name gives a +15 bonus to Perception rolls to figure out what they are like! The Raistlin and Caramon/Felix and Gotrek of Nerd Rock have cast their magic spells and wielded their swords with finesse to deliver an album more than worthy to rock the world.

That being said all the songs are catchy, replete with groovy riffs and anthemic choruses and perfectly allows non-geeks to really enjoy just excellent rock music. Its an all-rounder, great rock with perfect geeky references that add to the listening pleasure.

Drawing inspiration from their nerd rock forebears in Coheed and Cambria, Weezer and Muse, Canada’s Double Experience have crafted a prog-rock concept album for the ADD generation; a voyage into real-world examples of morality and beliefs according to a certain alignment chart. The album was recorded, mixed and crafted with North Carolina’s Al Jacob
and marks the band’s first release with Germany-based label Drakkar.

“Nerd Rock should be more than sweater vests and big glasses, it should be about celebrating what makes you different,” says Brock Tinsley, guitarist and founding member of DOUBLE EXPERIENCE. He and Ian Nichols (bass/vocals) form the nucleus of the band, with a drummer and guest collaborators added to the mix as needed for live performance.

The concept behind the album – a brief summary: The categorization of the beliefs and morals of all characters is their ‘alignment’ according to and in the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) universe. Fundamentally an alignment defines the character’s views on “law” vs “chaos” and “good” vs “evil”. The two axes allow for nine alignments in combination.

These nine alignments apply to all fantastical works including video games, comic books, film and TV shows (pop culture).

Alignments also present a compelling connection between fantasy and reality. In reality, our obsession with pop culture has blurred the lines between our fantastical beliefs and our political, social and moral identity. Double Experience have channelled that obsession with their new concept album, exploring the themes, ideas and characters that embody all nine alignments.

“Ian and I believe that rock music can still be vital and accessible, without being pastiche,” says Tinsley. “In fact, it’s more honest for our band to write about how passionate we feel about specific pop culture than it is to write about blanket, angry emotions. We don’t want to hold onto those emotions during the best years of our lives.”

DOUBLE EXPERIENCE’s music is not just a medium for their ‘nerdy’ ideas – it is legitimate, credible rock & roll. Having played almost 750 shows in 18 countries over the last 5 years, the band has recently toured alongside Canadian hard rockers Danko Jones and genre crossing funk/rap/rock band Hed p.e. Staying true to their vision, the band has also headlined MAGFest, GuardianCon, Ottawa and Montreal ComicCon, YetiCon, and ThunderCon [as well as many local city cons across Canada]. Performing with other artists within the Nerd-Rock genre – MC Lars, Okilly Dokilly, Cybertronic Spree and Master Sword – the band has expanded their fanbase exponentially since their 2014 inception.

Brock Tinsley (Guitar), Ian Nichols (Vocals, Bass)

Despite their Canadian heritage, nerd rockers Double Experience are unapologetic in their commitment to an underdog music category as well as their disdain for it’s tropes. By taking influence from Weezer, Coheed and Cambria and Green Day, the band bounce between sounds in a quest to compose music as diverse as an arcade gallery. The genre-pinballing is unified with their quirky lyrical subject matter that ranges from the artificial intelligence, tabletop gaming, comic books, and more. In doing so, Double Experience have bonded with a passionate global fan-base with their undeniable live prowess, all while maintaining a strong DIY-ethic that saw them perform nearly 1000 concerts across 18 countries, opening for bands such as Danko Jones Monster Truck and MC Lars.

By day, mild-mannered band members Ian Nichols (vocals, bass) and Brock Tinsley (guitar) deliver band-oriented workshops and panels at conferences, conventions and festivals (IndieWeek, MAGFest, Ottawa ComicCon), teaching up-and-coming creatives how to take control of their own destiny in a similar way as the duo’s musical alter-ego. In 2016, their Destiny-themed anthem “The Glimmer Shot” caught the attention of Bungie, earning the band unique in-game rewards and over half a million Spotify plays to boot.
