NEW: HIGH VISIONS Return With New Single “Checkpoint Charlie”
Have you ever had a goal or dream that you always aspired to achieve or something that you aspired to be in life, but felt pressure from others to be someone or do something different? Leeds, UK based punk band High Visions (For Fans Of: Rise Against, Sum 41) discuss that in their latest single, “Checkpoint Charlie.”
The song’s title, named after the checkpoint that separated Berlin, acts as a metaphor for how a person’s goals, dreams and aspirations may be separate from what society or others want for them, and its lyrics discuss staying true to yourself and finding your own path in life despite pressure to conform to societal norms or to what other people think you should do or who they think you should be.
“Checkpoint Charlie is about the juxtaposition we all feel between staying true to ourselves and what society says we should do.” Zyggy says about the meaning behind the track and its lyrical themes, “It can be difficult for us to stay on the right path in our lives, with people expecting us to fall in line and conform to society’s norms. High Visions completely rejects the idea that we can’t live authentically. We need to stay true to ourselves. Don’t let anyone tell you what to do. We’ve come too far to let this go.”
“Checkpoint Charlie” fuses together the more melodic and aggressive elements from previous material, while also experimenting with and incorporating some new influences from outside the punk genre to create another energetic and anthemic track that shows off their unique take on the genre.
Combining bombastic double-time beats, memorable choruses, and introspective lyrics with a DIY attitude and work ethic, High Visions are the hybrid pop-meets-skate-punk band you never knew you were waiting for.
Formed in a nightclub toilet in Leeds, the band have successfully blended the catchy modern pop punk sound of today, with the fast gritty sound of late ’90s skate punk and post-hardcore. The three-piece recorded their sophomore EP ‘Passerby’ with Dom Wright (Creeper, Gnarwolves) in 2018 and followed it up by bringing their no-holds-barred live show around the country with them.
Where sing-alongs meet screams, and where the crowd becomes the stage, High Visions have
performed over 50 energetic live shows both in the UK and mainland Europe, alongside acts such as Mallory Knox, Death by Stereo, Blood Youth and Allusinlove, and show no signs of slowing down. With a third EP on the way, High Visions are not a name to miss out on.
High Visions are: Louis Flynn – Guitar/Vocals | Zyggy – Bass/Vocals | Alex Fell – Drums
