The hitman who hates guns
One of the people behind The Sick Sense (check out a couple of their sketches here) is one Bill Taylor. He has many side projects, one of which is Craic Addict films. I had the privilege of being in one of his productions many moons ago. I may dredge it up!
Bill is a talented movie maker and one of his bests is Hoplophobia. Its a dark, absurd black comedy about a hitman who is terrified of guns. And his mum. And a flowerbed.
Well acted, good mood lighting and an engaging storyline with a few twists here and there makes this well worth the 20 minutes it takes to watch from start to finish. I loved it so much I watched it twice in a row. It tells the tale of Mike Watson, in his 30s and still lives with his mum. He is a well respected horticulturist and hitman. He gets a call from one of his friends who asks him to take on a job delivering vengeance on behalf of a gangster boss, Johnny the Suit. He soon finds himself out of his depth when Johnny tells Mike the hit has to be done in a particular way. Mike is told he has 24 hours or there will be a hit out on him. Thus ensues a number of funny snort out loud and twisted moments that gives a freshness to a well trodden archetype. Its like a well packed 20 minute comedy sketch that keeps you hooked all the way through.
Gangster Johnny ‘The Suit’ has revenge on his mind after his brother is killed by a rival. He hires notorious hitman Mike ‘The Strangler’ Watson to do the hit. Unfortunately for Mike he must overcome his greatest fear to get the job done. He has 24 hours to kill or be killed…
