Shadowrun has a Bright new day on Netflix

Netflix looks like it is hitting a homerun again with ‘Bright‘, a Shadowrun-esque play on the world starring Will Smith.

Having been a Roleplayer for many years and played many systems, one of the old favourites is Shadowrun.

Shadowrun is a science fantasy tabletop role-playing game set in a near-future fictional universe where cybernetics, magic and fantasy creatures co-exist. It combines genres of cyberpunk and urban dark fantasy and layered with elements of conspiracy, horror and detective fiction.

From its inception in 1989, Shadowrun has remained among the most popular role-playing games.

It has spawned a vast franchise that includes a library of novels, a collectible card game, miniature-based tabletop wargames, and multiple video games.

Shadowrun is currently owned by Catalyst Game Labs

Now it has, in all but actual name, been made exclusively for Netfilx.

In an alternate present day Earth, humans and fantasy creatures (Orcs, Fairies, Elves, Centaurs, Dwarves, etc.) have co-existed since the beginning of time, human LAPD officer Daryl Ward (Will Smith) and Orc Deputy Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton) embark on a routine patrol night, only to discover an ancient, but powerful, artifact: a magic wand, thought to be destroyed.

They encounter a darkness that will ultimately alter the future and their world as they know it. Tensions mount with Daryl and Nick finding themselves becoming embroiled in a prophesied turf war.

‘Bright’ airs on Netflix on 22 December 2017.
