NEWS: SWEET IGNITIONS Release New Single & Video
UK tune beasts SWEET IGNITIONS have just revealed a new track and video, Daggers, out now via The Animal Farm.
If you can imagine a band that fuses the fuzzed-up fury of Fu Manchu, Monster Magnet and Jawbox with Crosby, Stills and Nash’s ear for a killer harmony, you are close to describing South Wales quartet SWEET IGNITIONS. The Abergavenny riff masters have never met an overdrive pedal they didn’t like, yet they astutely manage to balance their twin-guitar, feedback-drenched sound with melodies that hit just as hard as the riffs.
Born at the end of 2017, SWEET IGNITION’s history can be tracked to the start of the millennium, when Matt Phillips (Guitar and Vocals) and Lino Malnati (Guitar and Backing Vocals) earned their stripes as young upstarts in Ruby Cruiser. The band were signed to One Little Indian and cut a debut album with producer Chris Sheldon (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro). The band were poised for big things, but the course of rock ‘n’ roll rarely runs smoothly and Ruby Cruiser fell apart before it could realise its full potential. Burned by the experience, music took a backseat for Matt and Lino in the following years, until the pair both found themselves living back in their hometown and reunited with a rekindled love of song-writing and cranked-up guitars.
They were quickly joined by bassist Huw Thomas, bringing a low-end rumble honed by years on the South Wales scene, before the versatile and hard-hitting drummer Ty Walker completed the picture.
The band’s debut single, Holy Scars, arrived late 2018 and racked up positive feedback with rock blogs, as well as exposure on BBC Radio Wales. The track also received strong support from Johnny Doom, notching up solid airplay on his Kerrang! Radio show. Their follow up, Neptune, landed at the start of this year and created an even bigger stir, making its way across the pond to LA to pick up airplay with SiriusXM. The track also scored a Top 10 spot on Big Indie Giant’s international playlist and picked up plays on stations across Europe and North America.
SWEET IGNITIONS have now dropped their third release, Daggers, which is an absolute stomping monster. The track ideally showcases the foursome’s song-writing prowess; it is simultaneously the heaviest and most melodic thing they’ve ever written. With more releases in the works for the remainder of the year, as well as further prominent festivals and support shows, the band’s stock is sure to soar.
