NEWS: Prog Rock/Metallers ARCHAEOLOGIST Releasing “Winter’s Wake” 6 December
Archaeologist is a prog rock/metal band from the CA Bay Area, initially conceived as a bedroom solo project, which has now grown into a fully collaborative four-man group. We’re releasing a two-part single called “Winter’s Wake” on Dec 6th, alongside a full 12-minute video which puts both parts together as one. Scott Carstairs (of Bay Area tech-death legends Fallujah) and Wes Thrailkill (incredible San Diego prog-fusion guitarist) make guest appearances on the 1st and 2nd parts respectively.
“Winter’s Wake” is a new 12-minute single, split into two parts, which showcases the evolution of Archaeologist from a solo project into a fully collaborative, live-performing lineup based in San Jose, CA. Scott Carstairs of Fallujah and Wes Thrailkill of Thrailkill make guest appearances with guitar solos on each part as well.
Winter’s Wake will be released on December 6th 2019 alongside a full 12-minute music video directed by local videographer Andy Chen. Physical & digital preorders will be available starting 11/25 through BandCamp.

Founded in 2013 as the solo project of San Jose-based guitarist/vocalist Kyle Schaefer, Archaeologist has since joined forces with guitarist Sean Johnson (Raiju, Riffshop), drummer Ryan Johnson (Surrounded By Giants) and bassist George Lallian (Cyborg Octopus) to perform alongside established groups such as Covet, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Rolo Tomassi, and more.
The band’s 2017 release “Odysseys” marked a departure into seven tracks of colorful, adventurous, instrumental prog-rock. Some of the many guest appearances included Yvette Young of Covet, Gavin Castleton of the Dear Hunter, and UK-based guitarist Sithu Aye.
Building on the successful release of Odysseys, Archaeologist has now returned in 2019 with a new lineup & vocal-driven approach as showcased in the epic 12-minute single “Winter’s Wake”.
