The Red Garden

The Red Garden” showcases a sophisticated fusion of heavy rock and narrative depth. It is also complemented by haunting visuals from album artist Kevin Moore of Soft Surrogate.

With each track FREEZE THE FALL takes you on a journey that sweeps you along. “Denial” is an interesting start, as an instrumental it has a chilling inhuman feel to it, having a certain 80s opening credits style that drops you into “Rot“. “Rot” is a rumbling song filled with a dark tempo and medieval allegories colliding with modern-day dilemmas. Almost a warning on how we live.

Hypothermia” follows next and while bassist Aria Becker’s intricate rhythms underpins the melancholic vocals that chug along painting a portrait layering on the tonal strokes bringing out the perils of digital anonymity.

VHS” certainly has that heavy intense kick that has a stylistic cyberpunk sound all while delivering angelic tones to juxtapose the heavy riffing grooves. Its a headbanging anthem.

Their latest single “Aurora” brings a richly melodic fast tempo steered by ethereal vocals that hits home with a melancholic hammer. It continues an ethereal style that contrasts vocals reminiscent of natural beauty while overlaid with a wistfully industrial musical sound.

Oubliette” takes a more reflective tone as it melds a progressive wispish style into an atmospheric tune. The vocals accentuate the tune as it soars up and down with its delicately hushed timbre. “Lace” hits that soulful note as both music and vocals dig deep into the mournfulness of lost innocence, of virtuousness gone and the hole filled with regret.

Intensity mounts with “VHS” a track that draws from the horror genre to explore the dynamics of power and subjugation. Conversely, “Aurora” offers a melodic reprieve, reflecting on the universal ties that connect humanity through its ethereal sound and thoughtful lyrics.

The album continues to explore profound themes with “Oubliette” and “Lace“. The former melds atmospheric tones with progressive elements, including a verse in French that accentuates its reflective mood. The latter, “Lace“, closes the album on a poignant note, using sparse instrumentation to delve into themes of innocence lost and the harsh realities of growth.

This album, rich with thematic complexity and audacious musicality, invites listeners to traverse a landscape where music meets myth, emotion, and introspection. With “The Red Garden“, FREEZE THE FALL crafts an audial tapestry that is both haunting and deeply resonant, promising to leave an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those who journey through its tracks.

This isn’t merely an album; it’s an immersive experience designed to challenge, captivate, and inspire.

Happy Metal Geek says…

With this EP, FREEZE THE FALL paints a futile irrecoverable past with a longing for the future. Its a fantastic album to either chill out to or to rampage round your room digging deep into your inner aggression and let it out. Its almost a perfect therapy album, as it plays on your emotions, scooping them out from the very bottom of the pit of your soul.

While every song has their strengths, “VHS“, “Aurora” and “Oubliette” stand out in particular, showing the range of almost new romantic gossamer like and delicate style melded to music that can float up with the clouds and also slam home heavy grooves and rhythms.

This may just be an EP, but it has a powerfully compelling sound that lifts you into a optimistic world on the surface that has a desperate industrial underbelly. Filled with mournful longing, melancholic reflection and energetic frustration, it is a wonderful mix of emotions. June can’t come soon enough as this is an EP that is a must have.
